Events

M.E. Awareness Week is 7th May - 14th May

National M.E. Awareness Day 12th May

ME Awareness Day is on the birthday of Florence Nightingale, and it has become traditional to mark the week as ME Awareness Week – for patients and in the media.

OXFORDSHIRE M.E. Awareness events are happening on Monday 14th May

This year there are two meetings in Oxfordshire for people with ME during ME Awareness Week – both on Monday 14th May. Friends, family and carers are welcome at these social gatherings.

It has been suggested that OMEGA members mark this day in whatever way they can manage, to raise awareness and to make a link between all of us.  The committee thought this was a great idea.

Some suggestions:

  • dropping in at one of the meetings (details below)
  • getting in contact with another member (or a person further afield) by email or text
  • using social media to say something about the illness
  • inviting a friend or neighbour for a chat and mentioning ME
  • telephoning another member
  • if you know anyone else with the illness, reminding them that it is ME Awareness week
  • lighting a candle, to remember those who are struggling daily, and those who are severely ill
  • watching the film 'Unrest', and suggesting that someone else does too
  • holding an 'Unrest' party
  • meditating or being mindful
  • sending a card to someone who would like to know you are thinking of them

The meetings are:

De Vere Hotel (formerly Oxford Thames Four Pillars), Henley Road, Sandford-on-Thames, Oxford, OX4 4GX

If you would like to tell us about your experiences on Monday May 14th, we could put these together in the next Newsletter. Please send a sentence or two (or more) to the Newsletter editor newsletter.OMEGA@gmail.com

We are looking forward to joining in, and also to hearing how other members found their day.
